Melindo mulls move to 108-lb. division

WILL Milan “Milenyo” Melindo be on his last fight as a mini flyweight?

That will soon be answered after the speedy ALA warrior’s mandatory defense of his World Boxing Organization Asia-Pacific mini flyweight crown against Tanzanian fighter Juma Fundi (8-1, 5 KOs) on Oct. 30 at the Atrium of the Limketkai Mall in Cagayan De Oro.

ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer believes that a move in weight might be a possibility because the current champion of the organization where the undefeated Melindo (16-0, 4 KOs) is campaigning right now and where he is currently ranked No.2 in the world, is his fellow ALA stable mate the WBO mini flyweight king Donnie Nietes.

“We are looking at the direction of Milan moving up in weight because Donnie is the current champion in WBO. After this fight, we’re going to assess if he will move up to the 108 pound division,” Aldeguer said.

The Cebuanos witnessed the 20-year-old Cagayan De Oro native fight and triumph convincingly in the junior flyweight division against Panamanian Carlos Melo last July 26 at the Cebu Coliseum.

However, Aldeguer added that Melindo is still better in his current weight 105-pound weight class. (EKA)
