Saturday, October 11, 2008 Oktoberfest and the Bavarian Sound Express By Luis A. Quibranza III
ALL mugs point to the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu tonight as it celebrates the grand annual Oktoberfest for the third time now.
And of course, with good food and good beer already covered, the experience is brought closer to home as the German beerfest will feature the genuine music to be performed by the 11-piece band the Bavarian Sound Express flown in straight from Munich, Germany.
The Bavarian Sound Express consists of jolly musicians Andreas Sommerfeld, Robert Josef Birnbrier, Thomas Budsa, Klaus Buecheler, Manuel Josef Heine, Uwe Rode, Florian Sigg, Martin Weidergruen, Klaus Ernst Weih, Thomas Markus Zinser and last but not least, the charming Caroline Wetzel on vocals.
Skilled musicians with traditional instruments in their hands such with the likes of trumpets, trombones, saxophones and percussions; they bring to the festivity their mix of genres like march, polka, waltz, big band, and dance to name a few.
“And when everybody goes crazy towards the end of the night, we play a little bit of rock and roll,” adds Andreas on the trombone, inviting laughter from everyone in the room.
“I’m really excited to perform. It’s my first time here in the Philippines and everything’s been great so far,” says Caroline.
Carlo Borromeo, the events and promotions manager of Marco Polo Plaza Cebu states that they are “very ready as this is going to be their third Oktoberfest to count and the difference between this year and the last two is that, it’s already an established tradition.”
So if you put all these things together under one roof, what can one expect?
World-class entertainment, lots of dancing, fun and games, barrels of flowing beer, sumptuous authentic German cuisine and a delightful company that’s ready to be merry all night long.
