Monday, October 13, 2008 Guadalupe rules Gov. Garcia Airsoft Open
THE Guadalupe Airsoft Team stayed ahead of the competition to win the First Leg of the Gov. Gwen Garcia Airsoft Open at the Cebu Boardwalk yesterday.
GAT earned a nine points from its 10 wins, one loss and two draws in 13 games to grab the first slot to the national competition on Oct. 25 and 26 still at the same venue.
Grabbing the second spot to the national competition, which is dubbed “Tunnel Vision – Situation Critical” is the YawCoy team which earned a total of 7.125 points.
YawCoy held a precarious 0.250 point over the Special Airsoft Action Team (Saat) last Saturday, before winning three of the last five matches yesterday.
They also drew their the last two including the crucial match against GAT in its final assignment.
“What we did was to just play it safe (against YawCoy) because we knew that they were trailing us. We did not play aggressive but we just played defense. However, we were the first to mount on the tower steps but unfortunately we ran out of time (and manpower),” GAT team captain Dione Baylon told Sun.Star Cebu.
GAT’s “buddy-buddy system” and their pressure on the opposing team helped them sweep their first day assignments.
“The second day was tough because of the muddy terrain. Our game got slower. Fortunately we did just enough to win the title,” said Baylon.
Competiton organizer Paolo Garcia lauded the efforts of the participants for a successful tournament.
“It was a very successful event and everybody enjoyed. We were able to accomplish our goal here to promote camaraderie and oneness to our fellow Cebuanos,” Garcia said.
Garcia is expecting GAT and YawCoy to perform well in the national competition because of the “homecourt advantage.”
And while GAT and YawCoy are preparing for the national event, the 12 other squads are looking forward to the second leg of the Gov. Gwen Garcia Cup in December in Moalboal town.
“It is our (Airsoft Group of Cebu) aim to expose Airsoft to the towns of Cebu as well as promote the towns in the southern, northern and even midwest Cebu. By bringing these teams to the towns it gives the localities additional income,” said the young Garcia.
SAAT placed third with a total of 6.375 points, visiting team Dawg of Lanao del Sur was at the fourth place with 5.875 points. The fifth placer was Deep Recon with 5.375, while Crack Legion was at the 6th place with 5.125. On the other hand, Team PacMan was at the 7th place with 4.625. (RCM)
