Monday, October 13, 2008 Tournament manager waits for report on ‘punching incident’
AN altercation between two players during last Saturday’s Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) football match between the University of the Visayas and the University of Cebu will be scrutinized by Cesafi tournament manager Jonathan Maximo.
But before deciding on the fate of the players involved, Maximo said Cesafi will have to wait for an incident report from from the officials supervising the match.
“The Cesafi tournament committee will take action once we receive an official incident report from the referees on that matter,” Maximo said in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
Maximo said that they will not hastily give the player a punishment as they haven’t verified and investigated the matter.
During the UV vs. UC game, a UV player allegedly punched the striker from UC in the face.
Because the incident happened away from the ball, the referee, two assistant referees and the fourth official failed to see it.

“The incident still has to be verified because we still have to receive a report,” Maximo said. “We have to evaluate the consequence of the actions of the player. We have to investigate this matter first before giving the proper sanctions.”
Meanwhile, in next week’s game UV will be missing their top players as they have accumulated yellow cards and will be suspended for their next game against 2006 Cesafi champion University of San Carlos.
Players suspended for next week will be Frederick Alazas, ace striker Junard Aguilar and playmaker Julius Acre, who got two yellow cards against UC.
UV is currently in third place with two points after two draws, while USC is second with two wins. (EKA)
