Barrita: Saved by the polls
By Eddie O. Barrita

IMPEACHMENT raps against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo have become almost as perennial as the grass that withers only to grow again.

But Sen. Loren Legarda said the fourth impeach rap will likely not prosper because the 2010 polls is just around the corner.

Saved by the polls.

The President’s allies said getting at least one-third of the 240-member House of Representatives to impeach her and send it to the opposition-led Senate for trial would be difficult.

Sen. Loren said they don’t have time to think of the impeachment complaint, with the problems the country is facing.

This impeachment rap, too, will come to pass.

Sen. Mar Roxas urged the government to prepare for an impending “financial tsunami” as a result of the global economic crisis.

Sen. Roxas has turned into a prophet of sorts or the legendary “kampisaw,” a sea bird that appears in olden days to warn people to prepare for a coming storm.

***

Malacañang also warned the public to prepare for a “worst-case scenario” of a global economic meltdown.

“We have to be ready for a worst-case scenario because whatever we say, our country is part of a global village,” Press Secretary Jesus Dureza said.

Many won’t be able to fully grasp this until our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) start losing their jobs abroad and their remittances come only in trickles.

The Galoc oil field off northwest Palawan, with some 10 million barrels in oil reserves, has started producing oil, expected to reach 20,000 barrels a day.

It was first discovered in 1981 and appraised in 1988.

So, current oil explorations in Cebu and elsewhere in the country, opposed by some sectors, may not give us quick relief from oil imports.

Tanods in Barangay Bulacao, Talisay City must be doing really good they got the attention of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

National Police Commission (Napolcom) 7 Director Bernardo R. Calibo said the FBI is sending some people to observe their Closed Community System Program (CCSP) as a way to fight human organ trafficking.

Well, it shows tanods need no guns to be effective.
