Wednesday, October 15, 2008 Matchmaker Sampson to join CDO boxing fans
RENOWNED international matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz will a take break from his matchmaking duties and will be enjoying Philippine boxing as a spectator in the Oct. 30 fight card in Cagayan De Oro.
Lewkowicz, who has set up a handful of entertaining boxing match ups, will be going to Cagayan De Oro to watch the speedy ALA boy Milan “Milenyo” Melindo (16-0, 4 KO’s) defend his World Boxing Organization mini flyweight crown against Tanzanian fighter Juma Fundi (8-1, 5 KO’s).
“I’ve talked with Sampson and he said that he will be watching the fight card in Cagayan after his WBC convention in China. He will stop over in Manila then fly to Cagayan,” told ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer in an interview by Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
Preparation
On the other hand, ALA fighters Melindo and WBO Asia-Pacific Youth lightweight titlist Jason Pagara, who are the main cast of the boxing extravaganza of the Limketkai Mall, are preparing well for their upcoming clashes.
Both boxers are on the verge of reaching 80 rounds of sparring. Melindo has been sparring with WBO mini flyweight king Donnie “Ahas” Nietes while Pagara is training with Mark Jason Melligen and Jimrex Jaca.
Both also have tipped the scales of their ideal weight range.
Matches
The 16-year-old Pagara (15-1, 9 KO’s) will be facing veteran and ex-Philippine lightweight champion Arnel Porras (9-15-3, 4 KO’s) for the vacant Philippine lightweight crown.
Other fighters set battle in this boxing event will be Eusebio Baluarte (11-1, 5 KO’s) who will be up against Jury Noda (5-9-1, 4 KO’s), Weng Haya (11-1, 5 KO’s) will be trading leathers with Jaime Barcelona, William Jorge (7-5, 1 KO) will be clashing with Romeo Jako, Jerson Mancio (3-0-1) will be fighting Saldy Calamba and Marlon Tapalez will be skirmishing with Roilo Golez (8-4, 2 KO’s).
