Thursday, October 16, 2008 Oscar not taking Manny lightly
EVEN with the obvious disparity in size, six division world champion “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya is not taking Filipino boxing superstar Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao lightly in their upcoming mega match on Dec 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
De La Hoya believes that he will be facing one of the best lefty in boxing history and thinks that Pacquiao is in the league of hall-of-fame southpaw “Marvelous” Marvin Hagler.
“Obviously Oscar believes he is fighting one of the best southpaws in the history of boxing in Manny Pacquiao. You can put Manny’s name up there with Marvin Hagler,” Golden Promotions Vice-President Eric Gomez told Sportsnews.ph in behalf of De La Hoya. “You’re dealing with an Oscar now that’s not in his prime. He’s still good and he can still compete at a high level but he’s not in his prime anymore.”
The 36-year old ring legend has everything mapped out in his mind and is well prepared for anything that Pacquiao will be bringing in on fight night.
“Oscar’s preparing to fight the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. He’s getting ready with everything in mind,” said Gomez.
De La Hoya is very serious coming into this battle and is not taking the much smaller Pacquiao lightly because he believes that the Filipino champion will be at his best.
“Oscar has all of Manny’s fights. Oscar’s going to expect the best of Manny. Oscar’s throwing out that he’s too little and stuff like that, he’s throwing that out of the window,” said Gomez. (EKA)
