Friday, October 17, 2008 Call of nature By Clint Holton P. Potestas
GRACE under pressure is how one designer describes his ingenuity, like a rose under the April snow. But he assures that every execution is ageless and evergreen.
“I love the song Evergreen performed by Barbara Streisand. It’s very claming, and soothing to listen whenever I’m working.
That’s why this song is my greatest inspiration,” Bayaton declares.
Though fuchsia catches his eye, green is dominant in his collection.
After listening to the hit song, he then responds to the call of Mother Nature.
From leaf appliqués to floral cutouts, he adds flair by juxtaposing them on simple column dresses, off-the-shoulder sleeves, and halter necklines. Venus cut, the current trend, is reinvented into casual and day outfits.
But according to him, long gowns (the red carpet inspired) are his masterpieces, or anything that sweeps the glitter off the ground.
Fabrics like taffeta and silk has always achieved what he has in mind. Their texture allowed his hand to drape or to create volume onto the outfit. For him, construction is essential; fitting is everything.
And like the song, fashion is often shared by two: comfort and luxury.
