Alaska Aces battle Rain or Shine

MANILA –The Alaska Aces and the Fiesta Conference champion Barangay Ginebra stake their unbeaten slate when they take on separate opponents today in the 34th KFC-PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

Alaska stake its hold of the solo lead against newly-resurgent Rain or Shine in the first game at 4 p.m., while the Kings try to stretch their winning run to three against cellar dweller Red Bull in the main match at 6:30 p.m. the 34th KFC-PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

With their spirits high, the Aces are expected to encounter easy sailing against the Elasto Painters, who suffered their first setback in three matches at the hands of San Miguel Beer, 82-89, last Oct. 15.

Coach Tim Cone’s Aces will suit up in the match fresh from their 89-83 win over Red Bull last Thursday, when Wellie Millder, Reynel Hugnatan, LA Tenorio, John Ferriols and Joe Devance finished wih double digits.

Coach Caloy Garcia, however, remained confident his wards led by rookies Gabe Norwood and Solomon Mercado can pull off some surprises.

“Our confidence remain high even after that setback to San Miguel Beer. I’m very hopeful my players particularly our rookies can provide a tough fight against Alaska,” said Garcia.

In the other match, the Kings are seeking for their third straight victory against the Barakos, who have yet to surge into the win column after three games. (FCC)
