Sasing wins Asian Beach Games debut

CEBU’s Jonrey Sasing opened his first international bid on a high note as he and partner Rhovyl Verayo won their opening match in the beach volleyball competition of the Asian Beach Games yesterday at the Sanur Beach Cluster in Bali, Indonesia.

Sasing displayed the form that had had coaches talking about him in the Philippines as they defeated Pakistan’s Hafiz Amjad Hussain Shahzad and Zaheer Khan Khan in two sets, 21-14, 21-16.

As of the moment, the duo is ranked second to Indonesia in their Group.

Loss

Meanwhile, the other men’s team suffered a contrasting fate as Benjaylo Labide and Angelo Espiritu bowed to China’s Qiang Xu and Yang Li, 21-11, 21-8.

Beach pencak silat bets Joe Marie Rivas and Edwin Simacon blundered in their first matches. Rivas lost to Malaysia’s Mohd Mahari, 5-0, in the preliminaries of the Tanding Class A of the men’s division, while Simacon lost in the Class H division.

But the RP team’s bet in the women’s division, Emraida Asmad, made up for it when she won over Singapore’ Nur Shikeen Amran.

This morning, another Cebuana, Jusabelle Brillo and partner Nerissa Bautista, will be opening their bid in the women’s beach volleyball competition.

They will face Indonesia’s Yokbeth Kapasiang and Yudhani Ni Putu Timy at around noon today.

Michelle Carolino and Suzanne Roces will follow suit and will face a team from Kazakhstan. (MCB)
