New mall opens in Mandaue City

INVESTORS of Cebuano-owned Parkmall held a “soft launching” of the shopping complex over the weekend.

Golden Great Value Properties (GGVP), the commercial center company of Co family-owned Cebu Oversea Hardware Group, invested around P300 million for the mall at the Mandaue Reclamation Area, just across the Cebu International Convention Center.

GGVP chairman Carlos Co said 30 percent of the six-hectare two-story complex started operating during the soft opening last Saturday and was in time for the expected influx of buyers during the Christmas season.

The grand opening is slated next year yet.

Asked if the launch wasn’t ill-timed due to the global financial crisis, Co said “We just have to ride with the crisis and overcome it.”

The mall has 700 parking slots and offers convenience to grocery shoppers since the parking bay is very near the exits unlike in other malls, he said.

The mall’s supermarket is also SaveMore, which offers “comparatively” lower prices.

Co said they are catering to the residents of Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City and other northern towns.

The mall is open for lease to homegrown brands and services.

Shine

“This will give Cebuano entrepreneurs a chance to shine,” Co said during the launch program attended by Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes.

Cortes said that Parkmall, the first mall in the City, will be a “catalyst for more developments.”

To ensure peace and order in the area, Cortes said two police cars and tanods will regularly patrol the area. (CYR)
