5 die in separate incidents

FIVE persons were killed in separate violent incidents in Cebu Sunday night.

In Medellin, two men who were attending the wake of a 12-year-old girl who died of a lightning strike were shot dead Sunday night.

Inocencio Tundag, 38, and Juanito Benturan, 52, both farmers who hail from Barangay Caputatan, Medellin, were at the wake of Rochelle Benturan.

Rochelle reportedly died of a lightning strike while working in a sugarcane farm in Sitio Dalingding, Barangay North Suba, Daanbantayan last Thursday.

During the wake, three men wearing cloth masks appeared and fired at the group of mourners. Juanito, Rochelle’s grandfather, and Tundag were hit in the head. Another man, Dodo Meniño, suffered a gunshot wound in the right arm.

After the shooting, the three men fled on foot.

SPO3 Mario Remulta of the Medellin Police Station said they were looking into the possibility that it was Rochelle’s father, Renato, who was the actual target and not those who were shot at. Renato, Juanito’s son, reportedly works in Cebu City. They will be checking his background to find out if he had any enemies.

Remulta said Tundag and Juanito did not have enemies in the area. Recovered at the crime scene were four spent shells from a 9mm pistol.

In Sitio Combado, Barangay Cantuod, Balamban town, a poultry worker was shot dead past 7 p.m. Sunday.

Antonio Mahilum, 43, was driving his motorcycle to the farm in Barangay Immaculada with co-worker Marcel Herbito, 28, when two men on a motorcycle overtook them and shot Mahilum. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds on his abdomen and two on his head.

The two men sped past them but returned to finish Mahilum off. They left Herbito unharmed. Four spent shells from a .45 pistol were recovered in the area.

In Barangay Napo, Carcar City, a man was found lifeless behind a store that had been closed up for sometime at past 9 p.m. Sunday.

Abraham Alforque, 27, suffered a gunshot wound on his head. He was last seen buying a cigarette at a nearby store talking to two persons.

Police are looking into a drug-related case as a motive to the killing. Recovered from Alforque were a lighter and P9.

In Minglanilla,.two cousins took turns stabbing another relative in Sitio San Vicente, Barangay Tunghaan.

Jessie Padayao, 27, came from work when his cousins Ian Padayao and Efren del Socorro waited for him. Ian allegedly punched Jessie. When he was down, del Socorro then allegedly stabbed him.

Jessie fled, but they chased him and helped on another in stabbing him. Jessie suffered 12 stab wounds.

PO1 Rodulfo Quilala said the parents of the cousins were the ones who had been arguing over a pigsty that discharged waste into another family’s property. (MEA)
