Mandaue cops receive awards
THE arrest of the suspected sender of a bomb threat “in record time” has earned medals for 18 police operatives of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO).
Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Ronald Roderos led the pinning of a Medalya ng Papuri on Supt. Vicente Mersan Premne, MCPO officer-in-charge, and 17 other police operatives in a ceremony yesterday at the PRO 7 headquarters in Camp Sergio Osmeña Sr.
Roderos said the police operatives showed exemplary performance by arresting 44-year-old Erlinda Cagata, who is accused of sending letters to Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Teresita Galanida in Mandaue City and RTC Judge Soliver Peras in Cebu City about an alleged plan by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to bomb the courts in the two cities last week.
The MCPO said Cagata, who is facing cases handled by the two judges, wanted to delay the hearings of her cases.
Charges
Premne, in an interview with reporters after the ceremony, said they are just awaiting for Galanida to return to Cebu from Davao City so that charges of grave threats and falsification of true identity will be filed against Cagata.
Cagata’s handwriting specimen, which was earlier submitted to the PNP 7 Crime Laboratory for examination, was found to have matched with the letters sent to the two judges, Premne said.
Also yesterday, policemen from Central Visayas were awarded medals yesterday for the arrest of robbers and the recovery of the loot in Koronadal City.
Top PRO 7 officers were proud of their troops, saying the officers showed the kind of service that the PRO 7 hoped to portray.
‘Extra mile’
Senior Supt. Louie Oppus, chief of the Regional Operations and Plans Division, said the troops were going the “extra mile” and for that and were awarded the Medalya ng Kasanayan, the second highest award given on the regional level.
The medals were given to 10 officers headed by Insp. Jul Mohammad Jamiri for the arrest of two robbers who conducted a hold-up at the Jodor fastfood, NDMU Complex in Koronadal City last Oct. 10. They also recovered the P93,405 loot from the suspects in Palian, Tupi, South Cotabato.
Also awarded were PO1s Joseph Elmer Cornea, Jay Kenneth Ymbol, Jennifer Alpuerto, Isagani Villarin, Rosendo Binondo Jr., Antonio Maglangit Jr., Randy Canonigo, Christopher Sullano and Michael Baylon.
“Hopefully, this kind of attitude will be a good virus our officers can spread in PRO 12,” Oppus said.
Roderos likewise congratulated his men and said he was very proud of them.
A company from the Regional Mobile Group (RMG) 7 was sent to PRO 12 to perform police functions as troops of PRO 12 were deployed to the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) for their special elections.
Oppus said they plan to suggest awarding them with the Medalya ng Kadakilaan upon their return.
He added that the RMG 7 troops were helping the local police and also conducting trainings in barangays, which was not part of their job.
He said they were happy that the troops were showing “positive signs” in showing the community how the police works. (JTG/MEA)
