Thursday, October 23, 2008 Utzurrum: Welcome to Ed’s salon By Chinggay V. Utzurrum The scene
BIRTHDAY Ed Alegrado welcomed all guests and they were garbed in all manner of Western attire as the invitations read: “Show up with your boots on.” Seen were cowboys in vests, checkered shirts, leather pants, belts and boots, and the unmistakable cowboy hat.
Ed himself was complete — with a Sheriff’s star! The entire Marco Polo Plaza Hotel ballroom was accented with a genuine saloon, Western wagon, as strains of Marlboro Country music and a continuous video show of Gary Cooper and John Wayne classics filled the ballroom.
Western flavored cuisine occupied a kilometric table. Guests guzzled beer and toasted the celebrator. Even the entertainment featured Ed’s grandchildren who took turns on the guitar and microphone, rendering Western ditties.
But the piece de resistance was the lusty dance number performed by Ed’s Bar Belles, who reminded us of a Marlboro Can-Can. What with their red and black ruffled gowns, feathered headgear, lace gloves and a gartered leg (oohlala)!
No stone was left unturned to ensure the roaring success of the Western Bash, with Ed’s lady love, Myrna Ngochua,
heading the organizing committee. So meticulously planned was the event that we also give our kudos to Myrna, who might just be Cebu’s next party planner!
