The era has arrived when women are tempted to wear almost any trend. Fashion designer Harvey Cenit sets the boundaries
and answers your style problems on size, age, and weather.
Problem: Baby doll dresses are in vogue these days. Up to what age may women wear this type of dress? If they are beyond that age limit, would there be a similar style that they could wear?
Solution: “Early 30s for the baby doll dresses. If beyond that, women can wear empire cut, or shapeless outfits; these are forgiving on any body shapes. A tent dress is a more mature version of it.”
Problem: I see women in Cebu restaurants wearing scarves over their blouses. Is this appropriate in a tropical country?
Solution: “A scarf is only an accessory for us, Filipinos. As December approaches, I think it’s practical to wear as it can keep you warm. But like what you mentioned, we’re in a tropical country; scarves are not advisable on hot days. Scarves are trendy these days, though.”
Problem: I’m slightly overweight. And many times, I have been mistaken for a pregnant woman even if I’m not. What fashions should I avoid so that my stomach doesn’t bulge?
Solution: “Avoid body hugging dresses, except for corset gowns. Avoid outfits that have detail volume. Over detailing of the dress adds weight and diverts attention into the wrong areas.”
