Friday, October 24, 2008 Son picks mother’s fight, kills woman, 3 months pregnant
A 21-year-old son shot a three-month pregnant woman after she earlier fought with his mother last Wednesday in Barangay Jagobiao.
He later fled to Compostela, and knowing that the police were after him, he surrendered to police yesterday morning and led them back to the town to recover the gun.
At the police station, suspect Frannie Salazar said the victim Luzviminda Ocañada, 40, earlier beat up his mother because of rumors.
PO3 Jun Tago said the fight between ladies was about money lending, although he didn’t say who the borrower was.
After the attack, the mother went home and the suspect, upon learning what happened, went to the victim’s place 7:30 p.m. in Sitio Sta Cruz, Barangay Jagobiao and shot her in the head.
Tago said the suspect then fled to his relatives in Compostela. But the Mandaue City Police was able to track him there and a brief chase ensued in a grassy area there.
But the police returned empty-handed.
But the suspect’s parent’s became worried with the chase in Compostela as their son might eventually get hurt for eluding arrest, as the father decided to surrender his son the next day, which was yesterday.
Salazar surrendered to the police yesterday morning and led the police to where he reportedly hid the gun, back in Compostela.
Police are now preparing murder case against suspect. (OCP)
