Team Cebu City to join San Carlos event
By Edri K. Azanar

IN ORDER to hone their skills for the 3rd Philippine Olympic Festival National Championship 17-Under football tournament members of Team Cebu City will join the Pintaflores Invitational Tournament on Oct. 27 to 31 in San Carlos City.

The Cebu City squad has been training rigidly for the POF National Championships slated tentatively on Dec. 11 to 17 in Cagayan De Oro and joining tournaments are part of their preparation for the POF National Championships.

The team has already joined the Men’s Cup category in the 11th Aboitiz Cup and will be soon flying next week to San Carlos City for the Pintaflores Invitational Tournament.

Smoothly

According to the squad’s coach, Mario Ceniza, preparations are going smoothly but the team needs to get to know each other better and work on their team building since TCC is comprised of players from Paref-Springdale, Abellana National School, Cebu International School, Sacred Heart School-Jesuits and Center for International Education.

“Although majority of the team is from Springdale, the team is composed of different schools so we are now focusing on our teamwork. The team still needs to improve its team work and get to know each other better,” Ceniza told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview yesterday.

Advantage

By joining more competitive tournaments against bigger players like the Men’s Cup in the 11th Aboitiz Cup, Ceniza believes that it will be their edge against the other POF teams.

“It’s a huge advantage playing in the Men’s Open tournament. They will be playing with stronger, faster and more experienced teams. It’s a big advantage going into the POF tournament because their opponents will be players of the same age level and they are already used to playing against the more matured players,” said Ceniza.

The 17-Under Cebu City team has already proven that it can compete against players of a different level after defeating Xantos FC, 9-1, in its debut last week, in the Aboitiz Men’s Cup division.
