Tuesday, October 28, 2008 Eyeberry batters Kidneycare, 79-65
EYEBERRY ’86 kept its offensive guns ablaze right after the opening buzzer to destroy Kidneycare, 79-65, in the continuing action of the 2008 University of San Carlos Boys High Alumni Basketball Association (USCBHABA) Atan Guardo Barkadahan Cup at the USC-North Campus gym.
In a breakout performance, team owner and noted sports patron Atan Guardo torched a season-high 20 points for Batch ’86, which never looked back after getting off to a hot 25-18 start.
Arturo Pepito “Pitoy” Mata banged in 12 points as Eyeberry closed the first half with a 40-29 advantage. Eyeberry maintained an 11-point edge after the third period, 59-48, before padding it to a 14-point romp at the final buzzer.
In the other game, perennial champion B-Meg ’85 demolished San Sebastian, 93-60, behind a scintillating 24-point show by scoring machine Lou Regidor, a former pro and commercial star, who now serves as assistant coach of the multi-titled M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Niños.
Virgil “Bing” Pua chipped in 15 points, while Jone Sepe and Emil Mercado connived for 23 markers for B-Meg, which kept San Sebastian at bay after coasting to a 20-point bulge at the end of the first period, 38-18.
The lead grew to 28 points, 75-47, before B-Meg transformed it to a 33-point blowout as the gameclock expires. (PR)
