RP 5 starts hunt in Fiba-Asia 18-Under
AFTER a silver medal finish in the 1st Asian Beach Basketball Game, it’s the Philippine U-18 Women’s squad’s turn to display its skills wares in the 19th Fiba-Asia U-18 Championships for Women in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia today.
“We just hope that our new (basketball) program will help us regain our once lofty status in basketball in Asia. The Philippines U-18 Women’s team is tasked with a very difficult mission but I hope our young ladies will deliver,” SBP Executive Director Noli Eala said.
In Medan, six-time champions China, along with Korea, Japan, Chinese-Taipei, India and Malaysia will be playing in the elite Level 1 competition which will decide who will represent Asia in the 2009 Fiba U-19 World Championships for Women in Thailand next year.
The Philippines, along with host Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Kazakhstan are in Level 2. (RCM)
