Teams start hunt in PCCL zonal eliminations today

THE battle for the last eight slots of the 2008 Philippine Collegiate Champions League Zonal Elimination starts today with the Zonal Eliminations for Zone 1 and Zone 2 at the Makati Coliseum in Manila.

The champions from the respective regions and the teams that are seeded to the wildcard will start their battle for the remaining eight slots to the Sweet on Nov. 24.

The Zone 1 qualifiers are St. Louis University of Baguio City, University of Luzon of Dagupan City, Lyceum Batangas of NCAA-South, Mapua Institute of Technology of the NCAA, the UAAP’s University of Sto. Tomas and Arellano University representing NCRAA.

On the other hand, those who make Zone 2 are University of Nueva Caceres of Naga City, Camarines Sur, Don Bosco College-Mandaluyong of NCAA-South, University of the East of the UAAP, Emilio Aguinaldo Collegeof the Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (UCAA), St. Clare College of NAASCU and Lyceum of the Philippines of the NCRAA.

Cesafi representatives

Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc.’s University of San Jose-Recoletos and University of Cebu will try to qualify when they play in the Zone 3 elimination on Nov. 9 to 11 in Ormoc City.

USJ-R and UC will face Bohol Institute of Technology-International College, host team AMA Computer College, Colegio de San Juan de Letran of the NCAA and West Negros University.

The University of San Carlos Warriors, on the other hand, are scheduled to play in the Zone 4 eliminations in Cagayan de Oro City on Nov. 14 to 16 against host teams Xavier University and Capitol University, University of Mindanao, Ateneo de Zamboanga and UAAP’s Far Eastern University.

The top two teams in each Zone will advance to the knockout Sweet 16 competition against seeded teams UAAP champions Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles and runnerup De La Salle University Green Archers, NCAA’s San Beda College Red Lions and runnerup Jose Rizal University Bombers, Cesafi champion UV Green Lancers, UCAA champions Universal College of Nursing Golden Dragons, CUSA champions Manuel L. Quezon University Stallions and NAASCU champions San Sebastian College-Recoletos Baycats. (RCM)
