Group develops Korean language course for Cebu

THE global economy has benefited from a strong Korean presence in various industries.

In Cebu alone, it is estimated that there are now 10,000 Korean residents and 5,000 annual tourists. Thus, the ability to communicate in Korean, or at least have a basic grasp of the language, is becoming a definitive advantage, especially in the field of information and communications technology (ICT).

Among those that could benefit from learning the language are student-scholars and teachers aiming to study or teach at a
Korean university. Businessmen and women who have dealings in Korea, tourism players, as well as knowledge workers applying for jobs in Korea would also find value in a Korean language course.

In line with this, 10 Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology (Cedf-it) members from the academe have signed a memorandum of agreement with Kwangwoon University last June 2008 for teachers exchange and granting of students scholarships.

Cedf-it is is organizing the “Korean for Busy People”—a two-month beginner’s Korean language course. Classes will be held at the Cedf-it Training Facility in the Asiatown IT Park. The program will start with Korean for Beginners on Nov. 17. (PR)
