Tuesday, November 04, 2008 Partners Cup to allow high school players
HIGH school students, who have the right potential, may be allowed to join the third season of the Partners Cup competition slated to start in early January next year.
Partners Cup organizer and Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy said that if coaches feel that these players can help the team and can take advantage of the exposure, then they can field in these players.
"One of the purposes of the Partners Cup is to develop up and coming students in preparation for the next Cesafi, so as long as they can qualify for the 2009 college season, then they can join," said Tiukinhoy, who had said earlier that the main thrust of the Partners Cup is to give the bench players and new players a chance for more playtime.
These players must at least be playing for the junior team or enrolled with the Cesafi-member schools to be able to join.
The teams who are expected to field in a solid lineup of all-varsity players are the top five teams of the recent season-University of the Visayas, University of San Jose Recoletos, University of San Carlos, University of Cebu and Southwestern University.
The teams that are allowed to get reinforcements are Don Bosco College, University of Southern Philippines Foundation and Cebu Institute of Technology. (MCB)
