Carnival time! By Jenara Regis Newman
QUITE a bash it was, when Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa turned 15, asking its guests to come and have fun as it turned the Marquee into a carnival of sorts, complete with a carousel.
GM Raymond Bragg greeted his guests at the entrance and turned them over to his staff for chips to play with inside, and for party hats and if one wished, face paint, as well.
Inside, clowns, mimes, stilt-walkers mingled with the more than 400 guests who were entertained by jugglers, acrobats, human statues, balloon twisters, a magician, a fortune teller and games (basketball, checkers, darts, lucky dice, ring toss and shoot the ball) with cuddly stuffed toys as prizes. Or they could try, like Michele So and Moya Jackson, to relive childhood carnival experience by getting on the carousel.
Drinks flowed and there was food a-plenty, including, of course, lechon, and native delicacies like bibingka, puto and ampao.
A short program emceed by RJ Ledesma and Menchu Antigua featured messages from all past general managers of the resort and the present one, Mr. Bragg, who thanked everyone for the support given to Shangri-La by the Cebuano community. The program ended with a toast, balloons then dropped from the ceiling and the party progressed into a dance session. It was truly a blast.
Congratulations, Shangri-La, and may you have many, many more fun anniversaries!
