Serna: Local ‘A Chorus Line’ auditions, anyone?
By Roger Serna

LAST week, without much ado, Cebuana belter Dulce breezed into town to grace the blessing and inauguration of the Estenzo building along Hernan Cortes St. in Banilad, Mandaue City.

The building houses the English Made Easy Language School (Emels), which is headed by the songstress’ close friend, the beauteous Elisa Estenzo Torres as president.

Dulce is in the thick of rehearsals for the stage musical Hairspray and the day of the inauguration was supposed to be her rest day but because of her friendship with Estenzo, she readily flew to Cebu and performed two medleys during dinner.

Other special guests were Sonia Roco and operatic singer Lorenzo who performed a couple of numbers. Rainbow Reyes also did some songs.

Emels prexy Elisa was a revelation herself when she acceded to requests for her to sing with Rainbow’s assistance.

Aside from English, Emels also offers voice and acting workshops, among others. Interested parties may call 5167889 for more details.

By the way, Dulce’s 30th anniversary in show business will be marked by the release of the album The Power of Your Love this month. It contains songs that are not only the singer’s favorites but the general public’s as well. Watch for it.

Speaking of stage plays, Broadway’s longest running musical play A Chorus Line will soon be seen on Cebu’s legitimate stage come Feb. 2009. This play is where the songs What I Did For Love and One originated.

It opened in 1975 and closed in 1990 with a total of 6,187 full house shows besting erstwhile record holder Fiddler on the Roof.

For its Cebu outing, 26 slots are open for interested singers and dancers. After its Cebu run, the play will tour key cities in the Vis-Min area.

Interested parties may call the production manager through 09294945735. Open auditions are scheduled on Nov. 29 and 30.

The venue will be announced later. Grab the chance!

During lunch at Lighthouse Restaurant on the eve of Halloween, young star Yasmien Kurdi did not hide her irritation over the experience where she was made to swim against her will in the polluted waters of Manila Bay for a reality show and which resulted to her dark color these days. .

If she’s a little heavier these days, Yasmien attributes this to her four-month hiatus as she tried to finish high school.

She’s confident, however, that her being a vegetarian and her fancy for soccer, basketball, surfing and swimming can be relied upon to put her weight gain in check.

In that same lunch, Rosemarie Gaisano said that they are getting the services of another hot property who dabbles as a TV personality and is a popular sportsman. His identity?

Be patient. It will be divulged in no time at all.

Mark Herras is sporting a crew cut “for a change.” His reunion with on- and off-screen sweetheart Jennilyn Mercado is through the Dear Friend series, a two episode outing (actually a first for the series) entitled Toni & Alex, the first installment
having been shown last weekend.

His hands are full with other projects like Luna Mystica with Heart Evangelista and Luis Alandy, and a new sinenobela Tinik sa Dibdib which will start grinding soon.

It came as a surprise that he looks up to Paolo Contis for the latter’s longevity in the field and earning the respect of colleagues along the way, professionalism and of being good-natured.

Mark’s dream role is an honest-to-goodness action movie, just like the ones portrayed by his idol Robin Padilla and he’s optimistic that the chance will come soon.

The 28th of this month is a red letter as far as concert goers are concerned. Grammy and Oscar award winning composer-singer Christopher Cross is coming to Cebu for a show at the Pacific grand ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

The multi-awarded artist popularized the songs Sailing, Ride Like The Wind and Best That You Can Do, among many other hits. Official ticket outlets are Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, Ticket Hotline, Ayala Center Cebu Customer Care Counter, SM Customer Service Counter and Wings Travel & Tours Ayala.
