Saturday, November 08, 2008 Sumabong’s acid test in Super 5 fight card
UNBEATEN upstart Rodulfo “The Sting” Sumambong of the RWS Stable will be tested if he is ready for the bigger fights as he trades leathers with veteran journeyman Daniel Diolan in the upcoming “The Super 5” fight card on Nov. 16 at the Lapu-Lapu Sports Complex.
Rex “Wakee” Salud, the manager of Sumambong, feels that this fight will be a test for his young ward. If Sumambong wins against this seasoned warrior, then a lot will be in store for him.
According to Salud, he will be given more local fights if he succeeds in this fight to bank him with experience before he will break into the international scene to face more formidable foes.
Sumabong owns an unblemished boxing slate with six wins and three knockouts.
Meanwhile, Diolan who is a veteran with 44 battles possesses a professional boxing record of 19 victories, 24 defeats and a draw with eight knockouts.
Diolan has fought six international fights and one championship fight against Meiji CP Gym for the Pan Asian Boxing Association super flyweight crown. However, Diolan lost to CP Gym via a unanimous decision in Thailand in 2001.
In the undercard, Jayson “Gladiator” Siaton will be pitted against Renan Branzuela of Bukidnon, while Rob “Gun” Montero will be facing Romano Gelig. RJ “Sharp” Ano-os will be up against Ramelo Estra and Renjie “Kilat” Abendan will be fighting Jerpol Valero.(EKA)
