Jarduls beat sportswriters

THE top-ranked Northwoods and the Leodi Garcia-led Jarduls opened the next round with a flurry as they decimated their respective opponents in the semifinals of the Thursday Club basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish gym along Escario St.

Northwoods banked on a strong endgame kick to vanquish DCI, 84-67, while the Jarduls disposed of the Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC), 77-62.

With the convincing wins, both Northwoods and Jarduls have the inside track on the title since the format is a single round-robin between the remaining four teams with the squad having the most wins being declared as the champions.

In the Jarduls and SAC matchup last Friday, the scribes got off to a fast start in spite of playing with just five players.
Behind the quick hits of Dave Ting and Jonas Panerio, SAC managed to control ex-professional player Garcia and the rest of the Jarduls and climb back from an early 11-point deficit to lead, 32-26 at halftime.

However, fatigue and the Jardul’s depth and their relentless full-court press finally kicked in and paid dividends, as they came roaring back after holding the SAC to just eight points in the third period to lead 45-40.

Bad quickly turned to worse for SAC as Jarduls turned on the jets and went on a sizzling 16-2 run to open the final canto and break the match wide open, 61-42, before cruising to the easy win.

Boy Canoy led Jarduls with 24 points while Garcia added 15. Panerio led SAC with 28 markers, while Ting submitted 21 points. Pooled Report
