Banca Cruises and Brunch Galore!
By Chinggay V. Utzurrum
The scene

WITH the number of islands left and right, Cebu is indeed ripe for a banca cruising island holiday. Which is precisely what Jay Aldeguer, CEO of Island Souvenirs, had in mind, when he launched his latest baby, Islands Banca Cruises, one Saturday morning at Mactan Island’s exotic tip, Punta Engaño.

If you can succeed, oh so admirably, in marketing island souvenirs, why not the island cruise itself, right? So we motored to Mactan and joined the hordes of island cruising lovers, and beach baskers to welcome special guest, Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano.

He inspired the assemblage in “exploring our very own” before going elsewhere.

So if it's island-hopping — or scuba diving, dive safaris, fish feeding, snorkeling, kayaking, dolphin watching, lechon/barbecue picnicking, sunset dinners, chill-out cruises, and just about everything under the sun, or the moon — that you long for, try this water adventure. It’s simply refreshing!

Another thing: don’t stay on just one island. Sail to captivating islands in Central Philippines. Have a sunrise cocktail in Boracay, a picnic lunch in Balicasag (Bohol), a diving feast in Palawan, and even a moonlight dinner in Samal Island! Where else and what else? For info, call (63-917-) 630-0736 or log on to info@islandsbanca.com or www.islandsbanca.com.

The Creus family has always had a warm spot for Dr. Marlon Lopez, Ph.D, and found it an opportune time to invite him for Buffet Brunch at Café Marco at Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.

More so to congratulate him on his forthcoming acceptance of the position as head of Cebu Normal University this coming December.

The very approachable and articulate Dr. Lopez, whom we had the honor to sit next to at table, regaled us with anecdotes about his career move and has always been a man of the academe!

Truly, a perfect choice for university president!

The Creus family, meantime (prominent in political and professional circles not only in their native Malabuyoc but in the city as well) were excellent hosts.

They added an open invitation to their bucolic beachfront mansion in their town. We’ll make it soon, Nieves and Jess!

It was another classmates’ “Powwow” when celebrant Lucy Franco-Garcia held her milestone at Café Laguna with fellow classmates.

It will be a golden year for them at St. Theresa's College come 2010, and they’re meeting regularly for this. Homecoming will not just be one day for them, but more like one week of celebrating!
