THREE choir groups from the Philippines bagged the gold medals in three of four categories in a competition held in Korea recently.
A choral group from Cebu won gold and bronze medals in different categories in the Busan Choral Festival and Competition.
The Cebu Chamber Singers, the only choir that represented Cebu, won third place in the ethnic/folklore category and a gold medal in the mixed classic category.
The group only joined two out of four categories in the competition.
“We are so happy because we had to go through a lot of obstacles in just getting to Korea and yet we won. There were about 16 countries that participated. The toughest contender was that of the Northern Kentucky University Chamber Choir but Cebu Chamber Singers bested all of them,” the group said.
Two other Filipino choirs University of the Philippines Vocal Ensemble and Capitol University Choir in Cagayan also won first place in the Ethnic/Folklore and Popular categories, respectively.
There was no winner in the Equal Voice category so it was a sweep for all the groups from the Philippines.
