Tuesday, November 25, 2008 Espina: The South African Flavor By Mila C. Espina In my Diary
CEBU has been having a taste of South African culture for quite sometime now.
Years ago, a group of media lifestyle writers visited Cape Town in Johannesberg.
Last September, Gov. Gwen Garcia led a group of business and government keyplayers and visited Swaziland upon invitation of the King and met some Filipinos in Johannesberg and Pretoria as well. Immediately following was the trade mission of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
To complete the South African immersion into our lifestyle, the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu had its South African food fest, featuring the best wine and dishes.
Culinary experts Susina Maria Jooste and Beate Styrdom were invited by no less than special guest Ambassador Pieter Andries Vermeulen and GM Hans Hauri to prepare authentic South African food.
Wine connoisseur Dondi Joseph (owner of wine store Darras+Bowler Wines) made the affair more exotic and exciting.
Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia cut the ceremonial ribbon to launch the weeklong food fest.
