Talk back: Oscar’s weight
By Edmond Navarro

ALL these days, I have been observing Oscar de la Hoya...How he looks... What his team says of his training, his condition, and above all, his weight.

Recently, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaeffer said that Oscar is less than 144 pounds and feels very good and strong in his new weight.

I am not an expert at assessing a person’s weight judging from the way he looks. Well, Oscar really looked great during the recent final press conference.

But judging from Oscar’s demeanor in the press conference, I am beginning to suspect Oscar’s actual weight.

In the press conference, Oscar looked very tense. Oscar’s face did not project a fighter’s confidence for an upcoming ring battle.

There must have been something wrong in the Golden Boy. Is it his weight or his shoulder injury that was earlier reported?

From what I have observed, I don’t think Oscar is below the 147-pound limit. Staying below 147 for such a long period of time, I think, is unbelievable, especially for a
fighter like the Golden Boy who has not fought at 147 for years. And I don’t think Oscar is that stupid to kill himself.

Psyche

I believe the Golden Boy’s camp only wants to psyche his opponent out. They want to kill Manny Pacquiao’s confidence.

Judging from Pacquiao’s calm demeanor and very smiling face in the press conference, I don’t think our boxing hero is fazed at all.

So who are they trying to fool?
