Tuesday, December 23, 2008 Del Monte rules Southern Jr.’s Day 1
DEL MONTE Golf Club players dominated the opening day of the 2-day 6th Southern Junior Classic golf tournament at the Cebu Country Club yesterday.
Louie Mariano opened up a 35 strokes on the front 9 and fired 40 strokes on the back 9 to earn 75 strokes to lead Del Monte players in Day 1 of the event in the Boys Special Division on the 18-23 category.
Mariano beat Cebu Country Club’s Bayani Garcia who fired an initial 76 strokes in the opening day, while the next two places were occupied by Del Monte players Jolan Miñoza and Julius Bautista who had 76 and 77 strokes, respectively.
Girls division
Meanwhile, Lovelyn Guio Guio also of Del Monte and Yoon Da Young of Apo Golf and Country Club were tied at the top of the Girls’ Special division competition with a total of 74 strokes each.
Guio Guio fired 36 strokes in the front 9 and 38 at the back, while Young had 39 on the front and 35 at the back.
However, Kento Nakada stood his ground for the Cebu Country Club as he topped the Boy’s A Division (15-17 years old) with 76 strokes to lead Chepe Dulay of NOGCC (78), Jovi Manglapus CCC (79), and Albert Cahulogan of Pueblo (80).
Kristine Leonen ruled the Girls division for Del Monte with 75 strokes as Abby Olea of CCC following with 78 strokes.
Lloyd Jefferson Go also gave CCC the opening day lead in the Boys B Division (13-14 y.o), with a total of 72 strokes as Angelo Jose Gandionco of Alta Vista follow closely with 73, Vijay Vasandani of Mactan currently at the third place with 76 and Harvey Sytiongsa of CCC struggling with 83.
Scores
Alta Vista’s Trina Gabasa topped lead the Girls division with 77 as Apple Fudolin of Del Monte trailed with 80.
Palos Verdes’ Martin Maghrablian lead the Boys C class (11-12 y.o) with 74 as Gen Nagat of CCC and JJ Gamolo of Del Monte followed with 81 strokes each.
Rachita Vasandani of Mactan took the lead in t he Girls division with 86 strokes and Alyeska Yunam of Alta Vista currently at the second place with 92.
The Boys D division (9-10 y.o) had Oriopn Yamat at the lead with 70 strokes followed by Wei Wei Gao of Alta Vista with 82 and Sabin Veloso of CCC with 92 as Lois Kaye Go of CCC lead the Girls division with 82 and Choi Sun of Apo Golf followed with 84. (RCM)
