500 families receive goods

AROUND 450 indigent families of a Cebu City barangay received food and used clothing from the government recently.

The Office of Presidential Management Staff Director Cerge Remonde with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Central Command started releasing family packs to the targeted 500 indigent families of Sitio Tabuk Canal in Barangay Pardo, Cebu City.

To recall, Remonde announced President Arroyo’s willingness to help the indigent families during her last visit to Cebu.

DSWD had so far released a total of 900 food packs (450 for food and 450 for used clothing) to the 500 identified disadvantaged families.

The family food packs contained seven assorted canned goods and three kilos of rice. The other pack contained six pieces of used clothing in different sizes.

Next week, another 100 packs will be released to complete the distribution to the remaining 50 families who were not able to claim their goodies.

Target

DSWD 7 Assistant Director Evelyn Macapobre said the goods distributed will only go to the targeted poorest of the poor in the area or those who have no or low income and can hardly afford to buy food for the day.

Remonde’s wife Marit, who represented him during the distribution, thanked the people who were on-site to receive the goodies and for supporting the government’s anti-insurgency program.

She also thanked Barangay Captain Danilo Lim for fielding his barangay‘s Gender and Development workers and for coordinating with the military for the organized distribution of the goods.
