Wednesday, January 14, 2009 SM reports higher sales, traffic during Christmas
SM City Cebu posted a significant growth in sales during the holidays despite the global financial turmoil that is affecting the country’s economy.
SM City manager Sherry Tuvilla refused to disclose exact figures, but said the growth is brought about by the increased number of tenants in the mall.
In an interview with Sun.Star Cebu yesterday, Tuvilla said food and apparel remain the top buys last year.
“We also experienced a consistent increase in traffic,” she added.
Comparing the number of mall tenants for 2007, Tuvilla said more than 150 tenants opened last year, specifically within The Northwing area.
This year, SM City Cebu is set to reveal new features of the mall. The Fiesta Strip, which will be renamed as The Promenade, will be re-opened to the public on Feb. 1.
Aside from new tenants at The Promenade, the mall will also have a water feature and new landscaping. Next month, the bowling center will also be completed.
The renovation of the main mall, on the other hand, will also be completed by April, said Tuvilla.
“We will try to replicate what’s in the Northwing like the color scheme and the materials (to be used),” she added.
The mall is also going to open a new traveler’s lounge next month.
“It will have more shower rooms and baggage space,” said Tuvilla, adding that the lounge will also compliment the hotel operations of The Radisson hotel, also scheduled to open in June this year. (DME)
