CEO working on modern drainage plan
A MORE comprehensive and modern drainage project is currently in the works at the City Engineer's Office to arrest Davao City's long problem on water drainage.
City Engineer's Office Head Meinrado Metran said Thursday that his office is crafting a new drainage project suited to the current water drainage problems of the city during heavy rains.
Metran said that the project will involve the construction of a major drainage converging facility along major waterways of Talomo and Lipadas watersheds.
He said the city is currently conducting a survey in these areas to know how much volume of water to be converged during heavy rains.
"We will use some of the technologies to really come up with a better drainage project this time," he said. The city government has its previous drainage project with a programmed budget of P398 million but it remains unfinished until now.
Metran said that only less than half of the project cost was released by the city government to implement it.
Half of the drainage project was implemented starting 1998 but was stalled until now. He however said that the City will continue the plans of the previous projects but a review of it will have to be done first.
"I think it will need an overhaul. We will have to know the defects of the previous implementation," Metran said, adding that this is going to ensure that the drainage project will directly address the current problem on drainage.
Unlike before, he noted that it will now take a longer time for the city's drainage system to drain floodwater.
"For a one hour rain, the floods now will also subside within one hour," he added.
Metran added that the project is still under a preliminary study. On October 6, consultants from Manila will visit his office to finalize the whole plan. OCE |
