THE Emperador Brandy Mountain Bike (MTB) Challenge fires off on October 6 in an out-and-back course from Davao City's Toril District.

Organizer Samahang Siklista Mindanao (Sasimi) president and Philippine Amateur Cycling Association (Paca) Region 11 commissioner Salvador Paholio Jr. said the 22-kilometer race features the junsen event for 16 to 30 years old, veterans (31 to 40) and executives fun ride (41-above) divisions.

Paholio guested at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn Thursday along with Andresons Group, Inc. area sales manager Rod Aguiling.

Aside from the usual cash prizes, Paholio said the top three winners in all categories will also receive trophies and Emperador Brandy gift packs.

The junsen champion will pocket P3,000 while the second and third placers will get P2,000 and P1,000, respectively. The next seven finishers will each receive P200.

In the veterans and executives categories, the champions will take home P2,500 while P1,500 will go to the runners-up and P1,000 to the third placers. The next seven finishers will also receive P200 each.

Aguiling said raffle prizes include one Scott MTB Frame, cycling jersey and shorts in the competition backed by the sports development division of the city mayor's office and Davao City Sports Council Inc.

Nimbrod Agton of the Simuna Sikad Munamuna is event director of the race that requires a registration fee of P200 per rider inclusive of one shirt and packed lunch.MLS
