Council to discuss P1.95M budget Friday
By Charles Raymond A. Maxey

THE City Council will hold a special session Friday to discuss the proposed P1.95 billion annual budget of Davao City for 2003.

The committee on finance, headed by Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz, is set to present her report on the proposed budget, which is a slight higher than the current year's allocation.

The council is expected to approve the budget on second reading, although a freewheeling discussion on the matter will highlight the proceedings.

Ortiz had finished hearing the budget as early as last week and assured to present her comprehensive report before her colleagues.

Vice Mayor and OIC-Mayor Luis C. Bonguyan said the council would then pass the budget on third and final reading during the regular session next Tuesday.

Under the law, the local lawmaking body has until December 31 to pass the budget for the succeeding year otherwise the city will have a re-enacted budget next year.

In the proposed annual budget for 2003, peace and order, environment and health were the top three priority programs of the Duterte administration.
