Davao named third cleanest city By Charles Raymond A. Maxey
DAVAO City placed only third behind Bacolod and Olongapo in the search for the Most Cleanest and Greenest City in the Philippines for 2002.
Acting Davao City Mayor Luis C. Bonguyan revealed the news Thursday over lunch with reporters. He was pleased with the outcome.
"To me it was a good performance," Bonguyan said at the Yellow Fin Restaurant.
The news was relayed to him from Manila by City Environment and Natural Resources Office chief Eliza Madrazo, who was in Malacañang for the awarding ceremony.
The annual event is being organized by the Office of the President through the Department of Interior and Local Government.
Bonguyan, however, could not hide his disappointment with the way the annual contest was being held.
He said Davao City, being a big metropolis, could not have been put in the same category that of Bacolod and Olongapo, which are two small cities.
"That's unfair," Bonguyan said.
Bacolod, for winning the event a third time, is now a Hall of Famer, according to Bonguyan.
Davao City also placed third behind Bacolod and Mandaue last year.
