City moves to close illegal videoke makers' shops

DAVAO City's Business Bureau is bent on giving cease and desist order (CDO) on illegal manufacturers of videoke machines who have been operating business without permits.

According to former Business Bureau Chief Jessie Marvin, who is now chief of the General Services Office after Wednesday's revamp at the City Hall, there are a number of unlicensed videoke machine manufacturers in the city.

"They are growing as indicated by the proliferation of videoke machines in restaurants, bars of the city," Melodias said.

These videoke machines are those that are operated by coins. They are franchised with videoke bars and restaurants in the city on a 70-30 percent income-sharing basis. Videoke bar owner will earn 30 percent of the total income earned by the machine.

"We are concerned about this because aside from operating without permits, they are nuisance. A lot of people have been complaining that these videoke machines are disturbing them," he said.

Melodias, who is now General Services Office chief, said that his office is now planning to inspect video machine manufaturing entities, mostly found located in Carpenter, Agdao.

"We will close their shops if they do not comply with the city government's business requirements," he added. OCE
