Pacquiao comments on Peñalosa's loss
"KULANG sa ensayo (Lacking in practice!)" was the curt comment of reigning IBF world superbantamweight champion Manny Pacquiao on Gerry Peñalosa's loss to defending champion Masamori Tokuyama in their World Boxing Council (WBC) super flyweight title fight in Osaka, Japan Friday.
Pacquiao, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao Saturday, said: "Parang kulang siya sa ensayo. Kinapos na siya sa last two rounds."
Peñalosa, 31, was holding his own in the early going of the fight but failed to finish off the champion as he promised to do.
The 24-year-old Pacquiao said it might have been emotionally draining for Pe¤alosa towards the end of his training to be shocked by his father's death.
"Sa tingin ko hindi siya nakaensayo ng husto kasi nga kamamatay lang ng father niya," said Pacquiao.
Pacquiao added that he would still be focused on the fight ahead if he were in Peñalosa's shoes.
"Kailangan talagang mag-ensayo. Importante talagang maging handa sa laban hindi lang pisikal kundi sa emosyonal din," said Pacquiao who will fight abroad next March.
Pacquiao, who became Davao City's adopted son prior to the "Duel in Davao", will spend Christmas with wife Jinky and sons Michael Stephen and Emmanuel Jr. in General Santos City. MLS
