Mindanao leads agri exports: Dureza
MINDANAO is the country's leading exporter of agricultural and fishery products, according to Presidential Assistant Jesus Dureza during the recent Kusog Mindanao Peacetival at the Waterfront Insular Hotel.
Dureza, chair of Mindanao Economic Development Council (Medco), said fresh bananas are among Mindanao's principal exports.
Based on 2002 records, Dureza said, Mindanao contributed 26.43 percent to the country's total banana exports amounting to $151,639,365.
Crude coconut by-products amounted to $128,955,168 representing 22.47 percent of the total exports.
Pineapple exports (preserved/fresh/juice), on the other hand, amounted to $57,021,600 or 9.94 percent of the country's total.
Tuna and iron exports contributed 9.69 percent and 5.43 percent to the country's total exports or $55,610,037 and $31,148,295, respectively.
Other products exported by Mindanao are shrimps, prawns and portland cement.
Japan, United States of America, Netherlands, Taiwan, Korea, China, United
Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Singapore and Canada are listed as the top ten destinations of Mindanao exports. AFD
