Rody backs plan to sell PTA, Artica

SOME people think the idea of Davao City Councilor Liborio V. Lumain are crazy but to Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte, they are noble.

Duterte for the nth time defended Lumain from his detractors, saying his proposals are worth looking into.

"It's a bright idea. Lumain has noble ideas, (and) it does not make him stupid," Duterte said.

Lumain had proposed to sell the 7.2-hectare PTA grounds and the unfinished Davao Artica Sports Dome, but his colleagues in the City Council and several sectors seem to just laugh at these.

Lumain, in justifying his proposal, said the proceeds of the sale of the properties would unburden the City of the monthly interest payment it has to give to the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP).

The City availed of a 300-million-peso loan from LBP for the construction of the sports facility. Only P150 million, however, has been released so far.

Duterte is amenable to Lumain's proposal to sell the Artica Dome, although he does not necessarily agree to sell the PTA grounds.

"I'll make into a huge park," he said of the PTA.
