Court defers arraignment of Pepugal case By Ben O. Tesiorna
REGIONAL Trial Court Branch 33 presiding Judge Wenceslao Ibabao postponed the arraignment of Norberta Pepugal and her son Eduardo accused of kidnapping, attempted murder and theft upon the defense counsel's motion to transfer the case to a family court.
Judge Ibabao's sala is accordingly a "heinous crime court".
Girlie Ueyama, 22, alleged that the Pepugals stabbed her last January 17, 2003 at around 9:30 pm. Ueyama added the two robbed her of at least 400,000 pesos and abducted her son as well.
Ueyama said Eduardo Pepugal was the caretaker of her house in Ma-a since January 2002. After arriving from Japan last January 2003 Ueyama said she noticed Eduardo acting strangely.
Sensing danger, the victim said she decided to pack up her things for a trip to Tagum City. She said that while packing, Eduardo suddenly stabbed her with a Swiss knife hitting her back and shoulder.
Ueyama said she also saw Norberta stealing her money before abducting her son.
The suspects were later arrested in Sultan Kudarat.
