Duterte seeks drivers, operators' patience on re-routing plan

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte appealed to operators and drivers to give him more time to craft a comprehensive re-routing plan.

Duterte said he can always ask for a new re-routing plan for the City but is still waiting the completion of the new Ma-a bridge project and the Buhangin underpass before he could come up with such mechanisms.

"Maghintay kayo (You just wait)," came the mayor's message to the operators and drivers, who have been complaining about the implementation of City Ordinance 108 or the Re-routing Law.

These operators and drivers belonging to the different transport groups in the city have been pressuring the City Council to modify the ordinance.

Just last Tuesday around 200 drivers and operators trooped to the SP hoping that the local lawmaking body would finally approved the proposed amendments.

The were dismayed to learn that the item was not included in the day's agenda and wasted no time blasting city officials for their alleged inaction.

But Duterte said it's not that easy to modify such law considering the ongoing construction of the Buhangin underpass and the Maa bridge.

The mayor said he is also intending to put up a terminal in the north and the project will certainly be considered in the re-routing plan.
