Brand new vehicles arrive for city dads By Charles Raymond A. Maxey
MEMBERS of the Davao City Council will soon be riding brand new Ford Ranger 4x4 pick-up service vehicles.
With all of the 24 units already here, the General Services Office finally issued the purchase request and purchase order for the vehicles.
With each unit costing P968,000, the 24 units amounted to P23.2 million in taxpayer's money. The budget came from Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte's peace and order fund.
GSO chief Jessie Marvin Melodias said an inspection team from the city government has been sent to the Ford office along J.P Laurel Avenue to check the vehicles before they will be distributed to the SP members.
But Melodias said the brand new cars will only be turned over to the councilors who can surrender their "most serviceable" vehicles to the GSO.
"I want to make it clear that these are replacement vehicles, not additional ones. That is the agreement and that is the directive," Melodias said.
Last Tuesday, Vice Mayor Luis C. Bonguyan issued a memorandum to all councilors asking them to surrender their existing service cars.
Bonguyan said this was the instruction of Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte.
The new vehicles will be distributed to the SP members either Thursday
afternoon or Friday.
So far, only Bonguyan and city councilors Emmanuel Galicia, Danilo
Dayanghirang, Diosdado Mahipus and Amilbangsa Manding have returned their old service cars.
Of the 27 council members, only Majority Floor leader Victorio S. Advincula, Beethoven Orcullo and Tessie Mata-Maranon were not issued service vehicles by the city before.
