CIDG, BOC join hands in battle vs smugglers By Ben O. Tesiorna
THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 11 and the Bureau of Customs are now joining hands in their battle against economic saboteurs especially smugglers.
Supt. Danilo Galapon, CIDG chief, said they have just signed an agreement with District Collector of Customs Fidel Camaņag to iron out the problem regarding the alleged harassments by the CIDG on some importers.
Galapon said the CIDG and BOC agreed to coordinate all their anti-smuggling operations with one another.
He said this is to avoid another miscommunication between the two agencies.
Few weeks ago, the BOC assailed the alleged harassment by CIDG personnel on some importers who already passed through the Custom's scrutiny.
Camanag said some importers warned that they will pull out their investments and transfer them to neighboring ports because of CIDG's operations against them.
Galapon, however, denied the accusation saying they are just doing their job in putting a stop to economic crimes like smuggling.
He added that they have strengthened their anti-smuggling operations after receiving persistent reports regarding contrabands being smuggled into the port of Sasa.
