LGUs alerted vs terrorist groups

LOCAL government units have been asked to monitor terrorist groups in their areas in the wake of the series of bombings allegedly staged by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Interior and Local Government Sec. Jose Lina said the LGUs will be tapped, from the governors, mayors and down to their barangay tanods in the fight against terrorism.

A memorandum to this effect will be issued by his office today, "so that the military and police can thwart any attempt to sabotage transmission lines," Lina told reporters at The Marco Polo Davao.

The job of the LGUs will be basically monitoring their localities since, according to Lina, the military and the police cannot do it alone.

The MILF is believed to be responsible for the series of bombing incidents that have toppled several power transmission lines in Mindanao.

One incident caused a blackout in 90 percent of Mindanao for five hours from Wednesday night to Thursday morning. CRAM
