Arroyo has final say on Reyes ouster: Biazon

THE fate of beleaguered Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes is entirely up to President Arroyo, Senator Rodolfo Biazon said last Sunday.

Biazon, a former Armed Forces chief of staff like Reyes was in Davao to attend the 66th founding anniversary of Davao City.

"I leave that to the prerogative of the president. Whether or not she will listen to the criticisms against Reyes is up to her. Anyway it is her responsibility," he said.

"The only person that can tell us whether Reyes is really behaving out of control is the president herself. Eh sinasabi naman ng presidente that Reyes is following her orders. So bahala na ang presidente na managot sa taong bayan (The Presidents is saying that Reyes is following orders. So it's up to her to answer to the people)," Biazon added.

When asked of his personal opinion on Reyes, "He seems to echo the American intentions in the country."

The senator said Reyes obviously failed in making a comprehensive plan for the military's offensive operations in Central Mindanao last month.

However, he did not agree with Senator Aquilino Pimentel's accusation that Reyes has blood in his hands.

"I am not going to connect blood in his hands. Instead, I will say that it was his miscalculation," Biazon said. BOT
