A DRUNK man who attacked his cousin with a bolo died after the father of his cousin came to the rescue and slit the attacker's throat in Purok 4, Sitio Immaculate, Barangay Tagurano, Davao City last Friday night.
The victim who also sustained several stab wounds in different parts of the body, was pronounced dead at St. John Hospital in Toril. He was identified as Dionisio Nayao, 33, married, while the suspect was identified as Benjamin
Nayao, 61, married.
Benjamin immediately surrendered himself to the nearby Philippine Army detachment.
Sgt. Francisco Socias of the 73rd Infantry Battalion delivered the suspect to the Toril Police station including the bolo that the suspect used to hack the victim.
In an interview, the suspect said his nephew Dionesio reportedly attacked his son Mike Nayao, 33, married around 5:30 in the afternoon.
The suspect was obviously drunk. Armed with a bolo, he reportedly hacked Mike for no apparent reason, hitting him in the leg and the right arm. When Mike fled shouting for help, the suspect, also armed with bolo, ran to his aid and engaged his own nephew in a bolo duel.
"Wa ko kabalo ug unsay hinungdan sa ilang away basta kay nikalit ra si Dionesio ug panghasi. Mopatay gyud iyang tuyo mao nga akong giunhan (I don't know what they were quarrelling about. Dionesio attacked Mike and he meant to kill so I beat him to it)," Benjamin said.
Mike is already out of danger and is in his home recuperating from his wounds, while his father who sustained slight wounds in his forehead and right hand is detained at the detention center in Toril Police Station. The victim's remains were brought to Angel Funeral Parlor in Toril. RCB
