Air Force pugs dominate Davao team
TOP amateur boxers from the Philippine Air Force (PAF) proved too much for the Davao City boxing team winning all but one of their five head to head matches last Sunday in the Araw ng Dabaw Boxing Challenge dubbed as the "Bakbakan sa Park" at the City Council grounds.
Rico Laput started the ball rolling for the PAF pugs that is composed mainly of former Palarong Pambansa and Arafura Games Champions, by scoring a Referee Stopped Contest - Head Blows (RSC-H) against a hapless Rex Diamale of University of Mindanao (UM) in the Light Flyweight (48 Kgs.) Class.
Deck Varron knocked-out Alexis Diamale of UM in the fourth round and went on to win by points in the Flyweight (51 kgs) division, Decebrix Ambray was too much for 2nd Mindanao Friendship Games (MFG) gold medallist Mark Anthony Borja winning by RSC in the Bantamweight (54 kgs) class and Ignacio Gerudias outclassed a smaller Richard Dumaluan in the Featherweight (57 kgs) division.
Reigning MFG champion Rolando Lacsamana won on points against Walbert Eballes for Davao City's lone win.
In the juniors division, Buhangin Simonpures dominated the morning session by winning four of their five bouts.
John-John Moralde defeated Bucana's Roldan Bemio in the 21 kg class, Jing-Jing Moralde decisioned Times Beach' John Rex Rosales in the 23-kg class, Toto Moralde defeated Bucana's Robert Anthony Jaure in the 25-kg class and Jun-Jun Israel outboxed Bankerohan's Glengie Ramos also in the 25-kg class. Paul John Ocon was the lone casualty when he bowed to Times Beach' Franco Neri in the 26-kg class.
Over 20 bouts are still ongoing as of press time. The "Bakbakan sa Park" was sponsored by Argentina Foods, Samsung Electronics and National Battery.
