Davao best in sepak takraw
DAVAO City booked a slot in the forthcoming Palarong Pambansa 2003 by trouncing Davao Oriental, 2-0, in the Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) sepak takraw finals Saturday at the Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Elementary School grounds.
Team Davao, composed of standouts from Calinan National High School and Toril, took the first regu convincingly, winning in straight sets, 21-14 21-11.
In the second regu, Davao Oriental won the first set at 21-15, but that effort was not enought as Davao swept the remaining two sets 21-17 15-4.
With the win, Davao City earned the right to represent the Davraa Region in the Palarong Pambansa slated in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.
"It will be anybody's game in the Palaro, but I'm confident that we have a good chance there," Davao coach Donato Cabico said after the game.
The members of the victorious sepak takraw squad include Rommel Delos Reyes, Hassie Pudpud, Raffy Bacalso, Eugene Catulong, Vlademer Canezo, Mark Joseph Miranda, Ydu Perez, Brylith Echavez, Rudyrick Perez, Glenn Tocmo, Alberto Campano and Benjamin Camangel.
